Location
The B & B is only 11 miles from I-95, 10 miles from downtown Bangor and 16 miles from Bangor International Airport. We are 2 hours from Portland Jetport and 4 hours from Logan/Boston Airport.
Our location allows the convenience of day trips to the coast, Belfast, Camden, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Bangor, Sears Island Beach, Moosehead Lake, Hermon Mountain Skiing Area, and many other popular areas.
Right behind our inn is the beautiful Penobscot River. You can walk along the river and with luck spot a moose or in the winter, seals have been known to float down river on the ice chunks.
Waterfront Concerts are extremely convenient to get to. Simply take a right out of our parking lot, go up 10 miles, and they’re right there!
Common Ground Fair in Unity is a unique and totally organic fair and a must in September. Plenty of food, demonstrations, and great tips on how to farm organically. Book early with us as our B & B fills up quickly that weekend.
Our local winery, The Winterport Winery and Penobscot Bay Brewery, is within walking distance and offers award winning fruit wines such as Blueberry, Pear, Apple, and during the fall, Cranberry. A must see is their gift shop and art gallery.
The Blueberry/Bluegrass festival is held at the Winterport Union Meeting House on the 1st Saturday in August.
*Only 4 miles from us is Sonny’s Par 3 Golf Course and Driving Range. You’ll find reasonable rates and a challenging course at Senior Golf Pro Sonny Reynolds’.
*Also 4 miles from us is the Winterport Dragway with different events in the summer.
* Fort Point State Park is 10 miles south and has the nearest lighthouse to our area.
*Also 10 miles south is the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. At about 40 stories high, this bridge is the only one of its kind in the northern hemisphere with an observatory at the top.
*Next to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge is Fort Knox with underground tunnels, old cannons, and a fantastic view of the bay. In October they do a must-see scary haunted house. They also host various events such as Pirates Weekend and Paranormal Fairs.
*Are you a Stephen King fan? One of his good friends, Stu, conducts a narrated tour of the Stephen King sites in and around the Bangor area including places from “IT” and “Pet Cemetery.” SK Tours of Maine
*Is the beach more your scene? 13 miles down the road is Sears Island. No guarantee on the water temperature up here!
*Skiing more your style? Hermon Mountain Ski Resort is within 10 miles. Not only downhill but snowboarding too.
* And yes, there is Acadia National Park. We can give you some highlights, maps, and the “must see” things to do there as well as recommendations on eateries.
This is just a small sampling. There are also museums, town fairs, flea markets, hiking, and more. We’ll also direct you to the local pub scene and the restaurants that the locals go to.
